Overview

According to a UNICEF report, India is the home for 31 million abandoned children. Due to the lack of educational resources, poverty and social backwardness most of them are forced into child labor. Some children are also discriminated if they are somehow affected with HIV. Because of these issues, many children also run away from home to escape domestic abuse. The police and local authorities are always rescuing these children to rehabilitate them and enable smooth transition into the homes of their foster families. At shelter homes, children find a space that provides a smoother transition into their future families. Volunteers dedicate their time either to a boys shelter where there are children rescued from child labor, or they work with HIV affected girls.

We want to ensure that the children are brought up in a safe environment to ensure a positive effect on their psychology after going through traumatic experiences. In childcare shelters volunteers are highly needed to engage the children into studies, arts and crafts, teach some life skills, provide motivation and love. Volunteers can also assist care-takers with cooking, serving food, homework and conducting seminars & events.
